In the light of recent events, Malaysia finds itself of shocking news that gathered attention of the nation.
The wife of the former Governor of Sarawak, Raghad Waleed Alkurdi was found to be packing her belongings amid a few days after Sarawak had appointed TYT Tun Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar as their new Governor. It is said that YAB Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud was nowhere to be found.
In the leaked photo circulating in various forms of social media, countless of speculations between what’s happening to the family of the former Governor, followed by another photo of YAB Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud bedridden, presumably in a critical condition. Rumours has said it that Taib Mahmud is absconded by the wife, allegedly being taken out of the hospital against the advice of the doctors (BFM News). Later on, the brother of Taib Mahmud came out with a statement that none of his family knows about the current whereabouts of Abdul Taib Mahmud but continued to pressed on that the wife is responsible of the former Governor’s health as they are concerned of Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Due to the ruthless speculations being made against the Syrian born wife of Taib Mahmud across all platforms, she has came forward with a story uploaded on her Instagram to deny all allegations made by the public. In a screenshot of a news article about the abduction of Taib Mahmud was an attached photo, was found to be a Nurse’s note, in hopes to convince the public that Taib Mahmud was not taken out of the hospital illegally. With the help of the citizens to read the illegible written note, it was translated that it was advised by the doctors that Taib Mahmud needed to finish his medical treatments before he gets to be discharged. Nonetheless, it failed to convince the people because the authority of being discharge from the hospital is not through a nurse but rather from the permission of the doctors in charge.
As the situation unfold, it has opened an eye for the public to acknowledge the power of Taib Mahmud and his wife. Why have we been talking about this family in the past few days? Why is it important to be in a loop of the current affairs of this family?
Taib Mahmud and his contributions towards Sarawak’s development today that rewards him 30+ years of his reign, wed a Syrian born air stewardess Raghad who had granted her Malaysian citizenship as of June of 2023. This has led to a discourse of pointing fingers as to why have the Sarawakians have lead such powerful identity to continue to be in reign of power whilst being aware of the consequences it brought to the state. Unbeknownst to the people outside of Sarawak, protests have been done to question Raghad’s citizenship. The people have never been silent about the injustice and the one-sided rule only applied to the commoners. It angers the people that a family who have never been born from the state, actively flaunts their wealth on social media that comes from the hard work of Sarawakians, oftenly making fun of Malaysia is granted a citizenship and possibly owning Taib’s extravagant possession of wealth. Due to a lot of controversies that led to people getting charged for accusing the former governor and the wife, these sort of discourse among Sarawakians have been done in a private manner to avoid facing charges by the authorities.
Taib Mahmud’s years of reign have finally ended, Sarawakians are now at the edge of their seat to see the unfolding of this family’s tragedy — that could possibly end worse. Some people have been unfazed and have been enjoying the free entertainment with the family’s own soap opera, as they have been predicting that a karma against Taib Mahmud, for his selfishness for owning native lands, abusing political positions for his own benefit but that’s the tip of the iceberg of a lot of things Taib has done. It’s only a matter of time where their own fate will be in shambles; like every other soap opera has it’s own ending.
